Bond. James Bond.

Last night I kicked off my mission to watch (and in some cases re-watch) all the James Bond films, from Dr No (1962) through to Casino Royale (2006). Why? Well, I thought it was only fitting given that the year is 2-007 and I figure that it’s one new years resolution that is achievable and fun!

Dr No is widely heralded as the best bond film of all time – of course I can’t comment until I’ve seen them all! Filmed in the early 60’s (yes before my time) it’s somewhat amusing to see the older fashions and vehicles in the film. Also clearly evident is the slower pace of the movie and lack of intense screen-filled action that audiences have become accustomed to in more recent action films. Missing from this bond film is one or more cool spy gadgets, aside from Bond having to take a different gun from M before departing on his mission. Present though was the iconic music and gun barrel sequence at the start of the film, and of course we hear the trademark line “Bond. James Bond.” for the first time and get to see Bond enjoy a couple of Vodka Martinis – shaken, not stirred. Last but not least was Ursula Andress as the first scantily clad bond girl!

The film was most enjoyable and is certainly a classic as the first in the Bond saga and the film that launched Sean Connery’s career.

One down, 20 to go…
